 “Urgent Call for Enhanced Security Measures and Long-Term Solutions in Bwari Town and Beyond”

In the heart of the Federal Capital Territory, Bwari town stands at a critical crossroads, hosting vital educational institutions such as the Nigerian Law School, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Veritas University, Doben Polytechnic, and more. The recent surge in kidnappings has cast a dark shadow over the town, affecting daily operations and instilling fear among students and workers alike. As the situation intensifies, urgent calls resonate for the Federal Government and FCT administration to fortify security measures, while also addressing the root causes through strategic socio-economic initiatives.

Given the strategic position of Bwari town in the Federal Capital Territory, the Federal Government must give the security of the town the required attention it deserves. It is noteworthy that the Nigerian Law School, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Veritas University, Doben Polytechnic and several other educational institutions are all located in Bwari.

In the last two weeks since the state of kidnapping  assumed an alarming dimension, the daily operation of these very important institutions have been negatively impacted.

In Veritas University where I school, students now fear to leave the campus and go to town to make necessary purchases for gear of being kidnapped. Even workers that live outside the campus must go home before dusk or else their safety may not be guaranteed. Consequently, the operations of the university are being negatively affected especially as workers, lecturers and students all live in fear.

The FCT administration and the  Federal Government must immediately put security measures in place in order to make Bwari town safe for the indigenes, the workers and students to be a able to operate without fear of kidnappers, armed robbers and other undesirable elements.

Bwari town shares borders with Kaduna, Niger and Nassarawa states and it is suspected that most of these evil people usually sneak in from these neighbouring states.

Therefore,  in order to adequately secure Bwari and the rest of the FCT, the security agencies of these neighbouring states must work in synergy with the FCT administration to check the infiltration of  bad elements from those states.

 

However the long term solution to the problem of kidnapping and other criminal activities is for the government to create jobs, especially for the youths in order to positively utilize their excessive energies for the good of the country.

The government must also open up the economy in order to make it possible for young people to get commensurate jobs after graduating from college.

When educated young people cannot get jobs after graduation, then the devil would befriend them and offer them jobs that would eventually make all of us uncomfortable.

Lastly, for any nation to achieve sustainable security for its people, it must invest massively in education, especially education of the youths. A situation where Nigeria has over 20 million out-of-school children roaming our streets, criminality would definitely be the result of this unpardonable neglect from our government.
