Gunmen Strike Angwan Rukuba on Palm Sunday, Over 20 Feared Dead in Jos Attack

More than 20 persons are feared dead, with several others injured, following an attack by suspected gunmen in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos.

The attack, which occurred on Palm Sunday night, March 29th, 2026, around 7:50 p.m., plunged the community into chaos as residents fled for safety amid sustained gunfire.

Youth leaders in the area said the assailants stormed the area and opened fire on unsuspecting residents before escaping. Security personnel, including the Nigerian Army, reportedly arrived at the scene around 8:45 p.m. to restore order and secure the area.

On arrival at the scene this morning Monday 30th our team saw 14 corpse while 11 others where said to have been taken to the mortuary as at the time of the attack last night.

The situation remains tense, with residents urged to stay vigilant as authorities work to stabilize the community.

In response to the incident, the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North, effective from midnight of March 29 to April 1, 2026, to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked, and assured that security agencies are on the trail of the perpetrators.

Residents have been advised to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
